Orctober catchup – 14/Sunday Gnomedays, and 15

Day 14, “Leader” (also Sunday Gnomedays 10-14-18)

Since this one fell on a Sunday, we get both Orcish and Gnomish goodness! Which inspired me to illustrate two of those current leaders – Queen Adamine of the Gnomes, and Chieftain Keesa of Onna’s as-yet-unnamed tribe (who’s also been featured in the recent pages of the comic!).

Behind Keesa are echoes of other Chieftains, because she’s not the only one – each tribe has it’s own Chieftain, and they are all equal in Orcish society. The Gnomes, as I’ve mentioned before, have a single monarch – currently Queen Adamine, who’s from a long line of other ruling royals. That relic she’s holding is important to her bloodline, buuuuuuut more on that in the future ❤

More on both of them in general, of course, available in the bonus material at Patreon.

Day 15, “Capture”

…..which stumped me at first, but then this hit me very clearly and DEMANDED to be drawn. As far as I can tell, there’s more to this abduction that it seems, and I think that “princess” is going to be just fine.

World Building Wednesday 7 – Elven Queensguard

Belatedly, that is, BUT that and Throwback Thursday all in one, as a result!

This week at Patreon we’re talking about the Elven Queensguard and government, as it was in the time of Misu and Mariatu 🌊💗🌊

This drawing features Reina, the Elven Queen from that time – who is one of the few characters from my pre-Tock work that has survived intact! (She’s on the left, btw.)

Here she is, in older incarnations:

(She looks pretty much the same, as you can see, except that now she gets to be happier! Yay! ……sorry Arella.)

(Also, shoutout to @photos_by_trinityhawk in the last older drawing, since it belongs to him 👍👍 and to my amazing Wife for fixing the ring in the picture and getting me into the show that inspired this drawing in the first place 😍 ).

By this time in her life, most “sensible” Gnomes have learned to run when they see Tock coming.

Gnomish Culture Bonus Material, part 2

The Gnomish royal family consists of their Queen, called Adamine, and her daughter, the Princess Bartelbia (the King, who was called Riordan, passed away from the side-effects of an experiment gone wrong several decades ago). Queen Adamine’s family has ruled since shortly after the technological revolution.

She is a kind but firm ruler, very focused on not only the security of her people, but also setting an example for them culturally. Despite the availability of airship travel, she has never visited the rest of the continent, in order to further set this example. It may seem at first glance that this does the Gnomes a disservice – keeping them “caged” in their own kingdom – but because she is a benevolent queen, it is assumed by her subjects that her motivations are for the greater good.

Very little is known by the public about Princess Bartelbia. Though she is of marrying age, she appears very infrequently, and says even little. Possible reasons for this are often the subject of street gossip, especially among the working classes.
