World Building Wednesday 27 – Romantic Relationships

Time for another patrons-only world building post, dear readers!

img_20190116_174011_162

This week we’re talking about romance –  where that fits within some of the cultures Tock and Bumble have started to encounter, and what each culture intends for that to be.

World Building Wednesday 13 – the Magicked Folk

20180926_121417.jpg

Time for another Patrons-only world building post! This week we’re looking at magic again – specifically, the cultures that have it, and why that is so.

Preview:

As has been implied, the Gnomes of Tock’s world do not have magic. Magical forces show up in some of their legends, and they hear stories of it existing in other cultures – especially in the Lowlands – but it has been a long, LONG time since any such force was present in their own kind. And as we’ve seen, the Orcs don’t appear to have magic, either.

So, if magic exists, where is it and why do its keepers still have it, if the Orcs and Gnomes don’t?

World Building Wednesday 12 – Brogh Battle Magic

20180919_122944.jpg

Time for another patrons-only world building post!

This week we’ll be looking a bit more at the Brogh – specifically how they use magic in battle, since they do have access to it.

Here’s a little preview:

“As I’ve implied before, the Brogh are more of a peaceful nature than not, but with the Orcs attacking them so often they do have to defend themselves. As such, they have developed several forms of defensive magic (a literal first line of defense, just trying to keep them out altogether) and enhancement magic, for themselves and their weapons, when the defensive measures fail….”

World Building Wednesday 9 AND Ranger Bonus preview!

Two bonuses today for my Patreon patrons!! (And technically about half of one for everyone, since I always share the WBW art.)

worldbuildingwednesday9_broghreligion1_tockthegnome_wm

Firstly, it’s time for another patrons-only world building post! This week, we’re looking at the mysterious Badger folk.

There is a LOT I could say about these guys – don’t want to give too-too much away yet, but you might be able to deduce some things from what I’ve posted about Eunan so far. As such, I will speak on one thing that ties into his own abilities: their religion.

Brogh Gaelic Time, 1

broghgaelictime01_tockthegnome
I’ve been working a bit on the Orc language lately (which I may or may not be sharing on Patreon with translations…), but that’s got me thinking about the other languages we’ll be coming across soon, particularly these lovely badger folk.
This time of year, leading up to March, always gets me thinking about my own roots too. I’m Irish, and love being so, and there’s a lot about Celtic culture that’s going to be reflected in Brogh culture (in the same way my Orcs are very very Viking).
In interest of honoring that, and not driving myself crazy having to come up with multiple fantasy languages, I have elected to have my badgers speak Gaelic. Which I am now also learning myself 😀
So have some Eunan speaking of himself!
Pronunication: iss farr may.
Translation: “I am a man.”
(Yeeeeah, very binary-centric, as the first few lessons irritatingly were, BUT interesting and important that he is saying so.)
