Brogh Gaelic Time, 1

broghgaelictime01_tockthegnome
I’ve been working a bit on the Orc language lately (which I may or may not be sharing on Patreon with translations…), but that’s got me thinking about the other languages we’ll be coming across soon, particularly these lovely badger folk.
This time of year, leading up to March, always gets me thinking about my own roots too. I’m Irish, and love being so, and there’s a lot about Celtic culture that’s going to be reflected in Brogh culture (in the same way my Orcs are very very Viking).
In interest of honoring that, and not driving myself crazy having to come up with multiple fantasy languages, I have elected to have my badgers speak Gaelic. Which I am now also learning myself 😀
So have some Eunan speaking of himself!
Pronunication: iss farr may.
Translation: “I am a man.”
(Yeeeeah, very binary-centric, as the first few lessons irritatingly were, BUT interesting and important that he is saying so.)

Sketch, Goddess Anosmia, as the Lady at the Gate

Pencil sketch - Anosmia, the Lady at the Gate

One of the religions that features most prominently in Tock’s life is the worship of Anosmia, the Gnomish Goddess of Destruction (Bumble’s family works with Her at least occasionally, as indicated here).

Anosmia has a lot of features and roles, and in this sketch, appears as a Guardian of the afterlife – guiding Gnomish souls from the physical world to the beyond. Which would indicate that in general, Gnomes belief in a world beyond after death that signifies eternal rest and may include reincarnation and/or punishment, depending on the value of their soul and what gods they served in life, etc.

More on part of the Gnomish pantheon here.

Spoilers follow!!! (provided you can read my handwriting)

Apparently getting up earlier than planned this New Year’s Day meant unexpected Tock Time.

WIP page 58, "Tock the Gnome"

The next few pages are going to be full of some Big Picture foreshadowing. Tock doesn’t know it yet, but she’s setting off something bigger than the Princess’s situation. Ohohohohoho.

Happy New Year, everyone. Thanks for reading 🙂

Looks like some pre-Steampunk Gnomish fashion.

Another Brogh (badger person) as introduced in design work before, but a Honey Badger one this time 😀

This was inspired by Ursula Vernon’s recent Honey Badger work, by the way, which got me thinking that if things were more…..peaceful between the Brogh and the Orcs, that Orcs would be quite impressed by Honey Badger warriors in particular.

Mind you, she’s not disturbed by the bloody organ in front of her. She eats those for breakfast. She is just put off by having said offering right in her face, in the hands of a potential enemy, no less.

Sketch – Trust

This is not exactly canon, but I feel like something like this is inevitable.

Oh, Tock and Bumble.
