Gnomevember 2018 day 11/Sunday Gnomedays 11-11-18

Since the Gnomes of “Tock the Gnome” do not have access to magic, they rely on physicians and their physics (medicines) for any ailments. And who makes those medicines? An apothecary! ….This absolutely does not match what I had in my head btw, but I hope the idea is still charming 😅 Also hoping/planning to develop this thought more in the future. Keep an eye on World Building Wednesday for that!

As in technology!

“Tock the Gnome” Gnomes rely heavily on steam technology and machinery for day to day life. It brings them comfort and security, especially the upper classes (thus the pointed hats here, as we have discussed).

Gnomevember 2018 days 8 & 9 – Family & Stone

More catchup!

IMG_20181110_160133_882Day 8 ~ Family

Featuring, therefore, the found-family of the crew of The Bucket, Tock and Bumble’s airship 🌬 Super closeup for this one on Tock and Bumble, to keep it as Gnome-focused as possible, but more on them and everyone else is available anytime at my patreon!

IMG_20181110_163705_660Day 9 ~ Stone

The Gnomes of “Tock the Gnome” live mostly within two mountains, which sit atop a plateau, which the Dwarves live under. I had planned on doing something about the connection between their peoples regarding stone, as earth elementals, but with having to catch up I chose to focus on a single Gnome instead.

She is considering her own connection to the stone of the walls around her (by way of the stone of the caverns that the Gnomes and Dwarves meet in to trade, called Boundary Market).

In Tock’s world, that awareness of Gnomish connection…

Catching up ❤ This week has been kicking my butt, so I very much appreciate your patience, and hope you still enjoy these!

IMG_20181107_170228_603Day 6 ~ Prank

The state of the world has been challenging to me (as it has to so many of us lately, I bet), so drawing was a bit more difficult on Tuesday. I had a different idea for this entirely, but I ended up thinking about the idea of cosmic jokes, or cosmic pranks, which led to thoughts about the ‘Powers that Be’ in Tock’s world, and how they push and pull at Tock herself. So here we are.

Featuring the two Gnome goddesses that feature most strongly in her life, Anosmia and Carwen. More about them and the other Gnome gods available on Patreon, btw!

Tock herself, channeling the fact that Gnomes are faeries too!

This will become relevant in…

Gnomevember 2018 day 3 – Hat(s)

Focusing on the difference in the hats they wear, of course!
I’ve mentioned before here that pointed hats are worn very specifically for special occasions, the only Gnomes that wear them constantly are the upper classes – the wealthy, and nobility, that is. Those persons probably also have several hats, too, while the working class usually only have one (and the poorest Gnomes would not even have one at all).**
So here’s two Gnome ladies of very opposite classes, swapping hats for their own reasons (but also to show that that’s definitely an area of their culture that needs to grow. Check out the comic to see how things go!).
**Gnomes don’t have much of a written history, but there is some historic artwork that survives showing all sorts of Gnomes wearing pointed hats on a regular basis. If someone ever brings up what this might mean, people around them…

Of a sort, anyway:

The Gnomes of Tock’s world begin this level of affection with bumping noses – which is also often done platonically between close friends and family members, buuuuuuut it means a little bit more between two people interested in each other 💕

Lucky for these two ladies their budding romance is between two people of similar class levels, so their story would be a relatively smooth one – more about class stratification issues with tomorrow’s prompt!
