Sketch – Gnomish bonnet

"Gnome bonnet," pencil sketch, "Tock the Gnome"

Just before my recent troubles, I went through a random Western-kick, so I ended up drawing this (I’d attempted this idea before, but not as successfully).

On that note, thanks to the generosity of several people, I do have supplies again, so I should be back to regular updates next week! Thanks to anyone who saw my post last week about donations and helped me out, and thanks as always for reading :)

Sketch – Eleanore and Tock’s Mother

My creative energies and time these past couple of weeks had to go to other things, so Page 46 will be up next Monday instead.

Instead, here’s something happening “off-screen”:

"Tock the Gnome" sketch, Eleanore and Tock's mother

Tock’s mother, as seen before here, questioning Tock’s friend Eleanore, as seen here, after she finds her gone.

Sketch – Chibi style research, Tock style

What the comic might look like if I amped up the cute.

Those of you who don’t follow my other art work might not know that I am a huge, huge fangirl (I promise this relates, so bear with me).

Over the past month or so, I’ve gotten sucked into a new fandom which has a lot of fanart in “chibi” style. I haven’t drawn chibi’s in a long time – probably because your average chibi  is really close in proportion to Gnomes. But because of my fangirling, I wanted to try my hand at them again, so this is me trying to figure out how a chibi-style would work taking different races’ proportions into account.

Here we have, then, a hypothetical Elf, a Dwarf, and a Gnome, all chibi-fied. Do not take any of this as canon, I was just having a bit of fun :)

Sketch – Bored Orc Woman

"Tock the Gnome" sketch, Bored Orc Woman

Not the one we just met, of course. But in keeping with upcoming things.

Sketch – Tock being pretty

Life has interfered with comic-drawing time this week, so things haven’t gone as planned, exactly. I really want to make sure I get the next page right because of reasons, so instead of rushing things, here’s Tock being distracting as usual:

Page 42 will be up between Wednesday and Friday of next week, at the latest.

Sketch – Unfinished Tock pin-up

Still working on page 41, so here’s an unfinished pin-up in the meantime:

Sketch – The House of White

More of one of the characters from this earlier bonus piece, with two other characters from her own story.

Again, what’s going on here will connect to Tock’s story eventually too, so I hope you keep them in mind.

Sketch – (more of) Tock with Faerie

Does anyone remember those fantastic faerie stickers they used to sell at Hot Topic and Spencer’s with art by Amy Brown and Nene Thomas?

I think this is going to become a sticker like that.

Sketch – Gnome Woman with Magic

Not sure how canon her behavior is, but this is someone we’ve seen before and haven’t technically met yet.

Sketch – Not the Best Week

Tock demonstrating how my week went (in general, with a few notable awesome exceptions). I meant to get Page 35 finished in time to immediately follow page 34, but that didn’t quite work out. It’ll be up next Monday instead.

Sketch – random Gnome brides

Because I am a sucker for weddings.

Special commission offer at Rachelillustrates.com

If you’re interested, I’m now offering $7 Sketch commissions! Details are here.

The example image relates to “Tock the Gnome,” by the way. Please take a look if you can :)

Sketch – Gnome Roles: Soldier

I’ve started a series of sketches depicting Gnomes that are on different life paths than Tock, Bumble, or anyone else I’ve mentioned so far in-canon. Here’s the first, based on this bonus piece from a couple weeks ago.

The woman pictured is the lowest level infantry in the Queen’s army, equipped with standard uniform and a falcata-style short sword (again, as shown before). The sketch below her shows a higher officer’s coat – which is white, not brown – and the “cogs” they pin to the front are ornaments displaying their ranks and accomplishments. Most officers can have up to three cogs. The highest ranking officers – like the Queen’s personal guard – are also equipped with guns.

Upcoming Filler

Life has gotten a bit complicated recently, and will probably remain so for the next couple of weeks. As such, the next three weeks will be  bonus work (finished pieces too, not sketches) while things calm down.

Thank you for being patient with me. Page 29 will be up as soon as its done.

And please check out the Facebook Page, if you’re so inclined, for more up-to-date reports during the wait.

Sketch – rejected Tock design

Sketch – Eleanore

The original sketch of Tock’s friend Eleanore, seen briefly here.

Bonus sketch – Bumble at the Beach

The second vacation bonus sketch :)

Regular page updates resume next week!

Sketch – Tock at the Beach

I’m going to be off on vacation for the next two weeks, so here’s the first of two summer-themed bonus sketches.

Regular page updates resume August 29th.

Sketch – Getting to Work

Sketch – Tock Wondering

Tock wonders what the princess might look like…

“Ask Tock” answer 1

I’ve gotten a little behind on things this past week, so here’s the first answer to an “Ask Tock” question. It comes from Andy:

“How do the various peoples of your world get on? Is there any emnity or even open hostility between races or cultures?”

To ask Tock a question, e-mail me at rachelillustrates@yahoo.com or leave a comment/send me a message here :)

Tock’s Parents, part 6

Years went by with no luck. After some time, they began to think one or both of them might be barren.

Then, finally, they were blessed with a single baby girl.

They named her Tock, and gave her everything they could provide, with quite a lot of love (and leeway) since she had been so difficult to have.

And, so far, they’ve lived happily ever after.

“Tock the Gnome: the Rescue Quest” returns with page updates next week!

Tock’s Parents, part 5

Time passed, they married and bought a small shop to sell their jewelry out of, with an apartment above it for them to live in.

Eventually, as their work became more successful, they started to try and build a family.

Tock’s Parents, part 4

Finding that they had the same plan, they began working together – at first, just as friends.

That did not last very long.
